Wonders of His Love
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
Psalm 98:4 KJV
Joy To The World, the Lord is come: Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room and Heaven and nature sing. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, and wonders of HIs love.
Joy To The World was first published in 1719 by Isaac Watts as a part of his Psalms of David Imitated. It was never intended to be a Christmas carol at all! His Psalms of David Imitated was a collection of songs developed from paraphrases of many of the Psalms. Joy To The World was actually inspired by the last part of Psalm 98. Isaac Watts, who is known as, "The Father of English Hymnody", wrote numerous other hymns including When I Survey The Wonderous Cross. The tune to which the hymn is sung was written by George Frideric Handel who also composed the melody for the Messiah.
